Sensenet SNaaS: DMS as a service

Every company has tons of documents that every day, every hour, minute, or even second, land somewhere on the server and wait to be processed as quickly as possible. I mean real-time orders, offers, emails from potential customers, invoices, photos and many other things.

Of course, it is very difficult to deal with this enormous amount of information and, importantly, to do it quickly, because the customer is waiting !!! This is where the DMS comes into play. Document management system – an IT tool that allows you to process all forms of documents created in organizations.

There are many DMS systems that allow you to handle documents in the right way: be it fast data archiving, easy search for documents by metadata or even content, or visualization and optimization of the structure. An important aspect is also the technology on which the system is built and the possibility of integration with the company’s existing solutions.

What is Sensenet?

The Sensenet as a Service (SNaaS) offer is all about making your development work easier and simpler – while still maintaining the security standards expected in an enterprise environment. SNaaS saves you time and energy by removing the need for installation and all maintenance-related tasks, ensuring easy onboarding, updates, and patches.

Sensenet is an Open Source Content Services Platform written in .NET; is a content repository with API first approach packed with a full featured permission system, preview and collaboration tools.

It is a system based primarily on .Net, React / Redux and REST API technologies. Sensenet offers a client (.Net client) and an API that allows you to manage and deliver content to each client, regardless of the platform and device.

A basic setup of sensenet has three top-level parts:

  • A content repository that is the storage and service layer
  • An application that uses the content of the connected content repository through API calls
  • A sensenet admin surface (only in SNaaS) that helps you carry out common content management tasks

In sensenet, everything is content. You can create, store, edit, organize, and publish any type of content. Documents, tasks, users, projects, even system configuration files – everything – are stored and managed in the content repository. It is the foundation that makes content management easy and powerful at the same time. All content items are organized in a content tree, so you can always operate through subtrees and with inheritance when managing and presenting content.

In practice, this means that sensenet gives you everything you need to build content-based custom solutions to satisfy a wide variety of business needs. ‘Sensenet content repository’ is an OData producer, a remote data service that uses Open Data (OData) protocol to share data from an external server. Which means any application can use OData to build its own web or mobile applications. It supports CRUD operations, property change, binary write and read, paging options, custom queries, and more.

At the same time, Sensenet supports the OData Verbose JSON response format, so the API response will look like regular JSON.

The system allows you to visualize the hierarchy of documents and manage individual elements using simple CRUD operations and, importantly, to create your own application interface or administration panel that meets the requirements of your company.

For securing repositories hosted in our environment we use IdentityServer4 – the Open Source OpenID Connect and OAuth 2.0 framework for .NET.

And that is only a small part of Sensenet’s sneaky functionality. Sensenet SNaaS provides enterprise-grade solutions for businesses of all size. Our company, in turn, deals with the combination and customization of Sensenet technology with the selected technology on the client’s side. It can be an Asp.Net/.Net Core application, or a WCF service or SQL Server database.
